"Ikigai" is a Japanese concept often translated as "reason for being" or "purpose in life." It describes the feeling of fulfillment and purpose one experiences when engaging in an activity they love, are good at, that the world needs, and for which they are rewarded. The concept comprises four elements:

1. Passion: These are the things you love and that inspire you.

2. Vocation: These are your talents and abilities that come naturally to you.

3. Profession: These are the things you get paid for and could potentially earn from.

4. Mission: These are the things you consider important, that the world may need, and that have a positive impact on society/the world.

Why do I need my Ikigai?

Finding your Ikigai can have many positive impacts on your life and health. Here are some reasons why discovering your Ikigai can be important:

1. Sense of purpose and fulfillment: When you find your Ikigai and invest your time and energy into things that truly matter to you, you feel meaningful and fulfilled in your life.
2. Motivation and enthusiasm: Your Ikigai gives you a clear direction and motivates you to get up in the morning and pursue your goals, knowing that you are doing something that brings you joy.
3. Health and well-being: Living out your Ikigai can positively impact your physical and mental health, as you experience less stress and dissatisfaction.
4. Better relationships: When you live your passions and values, you can build authentic relationships and attract people who share similar interests.
5. Job satisfaction: If your career or activities align with your Ikigai, you will be more satisfied in your work and likely achieve better performance.
6. Longer life expectancy: Studies have shown that people who have a sense of purpose tend to live longer and enjoy a higher quality of life.
7. Coping with crises: Knowing your Ikigai can serve as an anchor in difficult times, helping you to overcome challenges and bounce back.
In summary, your Ikigai can help you lead a fulfilling, happy, and meaningful life. It serves as a guide that helps you make decisions that contribute to your inner well-being and long-term happiness.

To find your Ikigai, you can follow these steps:

1. Self-reflection: Consider what you love, what you're good at, what matters to you, and how you want to positively influence the world.
2. Make lists: Create lists of your passions, talents, interests, and values.
3. Find intersections: Identify areas where these elements can intersect. Where do your passions, talents, and values meet?
4. Experiment: Try out different activities and jobs to figure out what aligns best with your Ikigai. Be patient and open to change.
5. Don't pressure yourself: Finding your Ikigai may take time, and it may evolve throughout your life.

Remember, Ikigai isn't a fixed position but rather a process of self-discovery and personal development. It's about finding a life path that is meaningful and fulfilling for you.

In my Holistic Life Coaching, we can work on your Ikigai together. It's often easier to work through it with someone who can guide you through the process, provide input, and inspire ideas. And it's also incredibly fun!
